Virginia accepts several of InterNACHI's free, online inspection courses for home inspector continuing education.

The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Board of Asbestos, Lead, Mold, and Home Inspectors accepts several of InterNACHI's free, online inspection courses for continuing professional education.  Although the Board does not pre-approve courses, InterNACHI has identified 14 courses which meet the Board's requirements for acceptance:
The Board requires that renewal applicants provide proof of completing 16 hours of continuing professional education.  InterNACHI members can acquire this proof by downloading, printing, and including course completion certificates with their renewal applications.

Non-members desiring to take InterNACHI's free, online inspection courses can become an InterNACHI member or become a student member.

Mr. Gromicko,

Thank you for the information you provided on InterNACHI and your letter of support for online Continuing Professional Education (CPE).  The Virginia Board for Asbestos, Lead, Mold, and Home Inspectors Certified Home Inspector Regulations currently allow for CPE to be completed through distance learning, including online training.  The Board does not pre-approve CPE training providers or courses and, beginning with the renewal cycle that ends April 30, 2013, requires that renewal applicants provide proof of completing 16 hours of CPE if such proof is requested by the Board or its duly authorized agents.   The 16 hours of CPE completed shall be based on the content area of the Board’s examination.  You may find this information in the attached regulations at 18 VAC 15-40-72.

Thank you,
Jill

Mr. Gromicko,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.  The copy of the regulation I supplied you from the DPOR website contains the Code of Virginia as passed by the 2001 Session.  In 2009, section 54.1-500.1 was amended and the language concerning the two organizations was removed.  There is nothing preventing any organization from submitting a list of board member candidates to the Secretary of the Commonwealth at any time.

The link below is to the current Code of Virginia, section 54.1-500.1:
