InterNACHI is supporting the Tennessee Association of Realtor's new version of the
Home Inspector License Act for the state of Tennessee.
The Tennessee Association of Realtors (TAR) worked with the Bredesen Administration
over the summer and fall to improve the bill. We believe the new version will
meet with the governor's approval and satisfy the concerns of every interest group
with a stake in the bill's passage.
The biggest change from the last amendment under consideration in 2004 is that
licensure of home inspectors will NOT be attached administratively to the Board
for Licensing Contractors. This provision had been a point of contention with
InterNACHI and other home inspector groups.
At the urging of the Bredesen Administration, TAR is recommending that home inspectors
will be licensed as part of an administrative program under the Commissioner of
Commerce and Insurance.
Although there will not be a standing commission or board of home inspectors,
the commissioner will be authorized to appoint an advisory committee of home inspectors
and others to assist in the drafting of rules and regulations if needed.
Rob Broome, Director of Governmental Affairs for the Tennessee Association of
REALTORs and Mike Gaughan, TAR's 2005 Governmental Affairs Chairman will be meeting
with Tenessee home inspectors at https://www.nachi.org/midtnchapter.htm on February 19th in Nashville. Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting.
We still have time to make changes and so any desired ammendments should be voiced
at this meeting. I hope to see you all there.
