How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Ohio

Sec 4764.08 of the Ohio Home Inspector Licensing Law states that during each three-year period that a license is valid, a licensed home inspector shall successfully complete at least 14 hours of continuing education annually. Resources for Interactive Curriculum of Experience and Parallel Inspections

The Home Inspector Institute of Ohio (HITIOhio) has partnered with InterNACHI to provide the required 40 hours of Interactive Curriculum of Experience option for licensing. Please contact the school directly for more information. 

Alternatively, inspector applicants may fulfill licensing requirements by completing 10 parallel inspections. InterNACHI members have full access to the Mentoring database and can reach out to any licensed Ohio Inspector to complete their 10 parallel inspections. Continuing Education courses are accepted by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Indoor Radon Program if they are approved by NRPP. The Columbus Board of REALTORS requires that inspectors be members in good standing of a national inspection association such as InterNACHI. Thanks to lobbying efforts by InterNACHI’s attorney, it was the decision of the Board of Directors of the Columbus Board of REALTORS, at its February 23, 2011 meeting to approve the Standard Qualified Inspector Clause #402 which prevents non-members from performing inspections and requires home inspectors to be a members in good standing of a national inspection association such as InterNACHI. Become a Certified Wood-Destroying Organisms (WDO) Inspector

 

The state of Ohio requires that wood-destroying insect inspectors be licensed and certified through the state. InterNACHI's Wood-Destroying Organisms (WDO) Inspection Course is currently in the process for approval.
