How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in New Mexico

Home Inspector Licensing

All license applicants are required to complete the state application, submit fingerprints, and proof of inspector insurance. There are three ways to attain a home inspector license in New Mexico. Application by Training and Examination

Complete InterNACHI's state-approved free, online pre-licensing course.
Pass the InterNACHI® Online Inspector Examination (proctored version). To schedule a proctored exam for only $25, CLICK HERE. The exam is proctored in-person or virtually by the CNM Community College Assessment Center (cnm.edu). Complete 80 hours of field experience, including 30 parallel inspections with a licensed home inspector.

Application by Experience and Examination

Applicant has been a home inspector for 2 years prior to Jan 1, 2020.
Applicant has completed 100 inspections prior to Jan 1, 2020.
Applicant has passed the InterNACHI® Online Inspector Examination (proctored version). To schedule a proctored exam for only $25, CLICK HERE. Applicant has a license from a state with similar licensing requirements.

Insurance for Home Inspectors

Continuing Education (online & free for members)

According to the new rule, as a condition of license renewal, a home inspector licensee shall complete at least 60 hours of board-approved Continuing Education (CE) that is related to the practice of home inspection during each three-year license period as outlined in 16.66.4.8 NMAC. Radon Tester Certification in New Mexico

Although New Mexico does not regulate individuals who perform radon testing, measurement or mitigation, the New Mexico Environment Department recommends hiring a Certified Radon Tester who has completed a radon measurement training certification course approved by AARST-NRPP or NRSB.
