How to Become a Certified Home Inspector in Mississippi

To become a licensed home inspector in Mississippi, you must:

  1. Successfully complete 60 hours of pre-licensing coursework. InterNACHI's free, online 60-Hour Pre-Licensing Course is accepted by the Mississippi Real Estate Commission (MREC). It's free and online to members. Not a member? Join InterNACHI as a member now.
  2. Take the state exam. Contact MHID to schedule the state exam. 
  3. Send your home inspector application to MREC. The application and address are on the MHID website. 
 
 

Insurance for Inspectors

Real Estate Cards (free for members):

Licensed real estate agents can attain free Continuing Education credits by following the directions on the real estate cards. Members can hand out these cards to real estate agents, which explain how to log into the free courses.
 
When an agent logs into a course and enters the member's ID number, the member is automatically emailed. The first slide of the course is the member's contact information.

Radon Tester Certification in Mississippi (online & free for members): 


Although there are no state regulations for radon testing in Mississippi, the state recommends that homeowners hire an NRPP-Certified Radon Tester. Visit the Mississippi website for details.

§ 73-60-23. Continuing education requirements

(1) Each person who applies for renewal of his license shall successfully complete home inspector continuing education courses approved by the commission at the rate of twenty (20) hours every two (2) years.
