Certified Professional Inspector CPI®

To become a Certified Professional Inspector CPI®, you must:

Join InterNACHI as a member;
Pass InterNACHI's Online Inspector Examination (free & open to everyone);
Complete InterNACHI's online Code of Ethics Course (free & online for members); and
Complete InterNACHI's online Standards of Practice Course (free & online for members).

If you have never performed any fee-paid inspections, you must:

Submit four mock inspection reports to InterNACHI's Report Review Committee (free service),

Once you've completed the above requirements, you must:

Sign your affidavit to become a Certified Professional Inspector CPI®; and
Download your Certified Home Inspector Certificate from your InterNACHI Members-Only Account.

To maintain your certification, you must:

Substantially adhere to the InterNACHI Standards of Practice or the standard required by law in your jurisdiction;
Abide by the InterNACHI Code of Ethics for Home Inspectors;
Comply with InterNACHI's Continuing Education Policy; and
Maintain an up-to-date Members-Only Account.

Within the first year after joining InterNACHI, you must complete:

InterNACHI's online Safe Practices for the Home Inspector course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online 25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online Residential Plumbing Overview for Inspectors course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Perform Residential Electrical Inspections course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Perform Roof Inspections course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Inspect HVAC Systems course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online Structural Issues for Home Inspectors course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Perform Exterior Inspections course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Inspect the Attic, Insulation, Ventilation and Interior course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Perform Deck Inspections course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Inspect for Moisture Intrusion course (free & online, take at your own pace),
InterNACHI's online How to Inspect Fireplaces, Stoves, and Chimneys course (free & online, take at your own pace).

Every three years, you must pass InterNACHI's Online Inspector Examination (free & online) with a score of 80% or better.
