Step-by-Step Process to Get Free Continuing Education for Illinois Home Inspectors

Here's an easy step-by-step process for InterNACHI® members to attain free Continuing Education credits to renew your Illinois home inspector license. Everything else you need as an IL-licensed home inspector is at nachi.org/illinois. InterNACHI® is an Illinois Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)-approved school. 


Step #1: Choose an online course (free & online for members)

  1. Choose any Illinois IDFPR-approved course from our main education page. 
  2. Log in and take a course. All of InterNACHI's online courses and their final exams are free to members. 
  3. Be sure to take at least 8 hours of mandatory education per each 2-year renewal cycle. You can confirm the category of a course directly from the IDFPR website. 

As of February 19, 2024, the state of Illinois no longer requires continuing education to be proctored unless it is offered as a home study or correspondence course (Section 1410.540.d).


Step #2: Confirm your education credits were received

  1. Allow 3-5 business days to elapse and then check IL's portal to confirm your education is posted. 
  2. If you don't see anticipated credits, confirm that the course you took was approved for continuing education in Illinois. If it is approved and you don't see your credits posted, please email education@internachi.org with the title and date of the course you completed.
