Home Energy Scores
in Colorado
A home inspector can generate a Home Energy Score in less than an hour.
The training and software are online and free for members in Colorado.
The Home Energy Score includes:
- a score on a scale of 1 to 10;
- facts about the home and its energy use; and
- recommendations generated by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the score and energy efficiency.
Once
an inspector in Colorado completes the free, online training, they will
be activated as a qualified Home Energy Score Assessor and provided
access to the free Home Energy Score software.

Inspecting the Bathroom Exhaust
Regardless
of what kind of ventilation system may be installed for the rest of the
house, exhaust fans are recommended in the bathrooms to remove excess
moisture, cleaning chemical fumes, etc. The fan should be ducted to
exhaust outside of the home.
Exhaust air from bathrooms, toilet rooms, water closet compartments, and other similar rooms shall NOT be:
- exhausted into an attic, soffit, ridge vent, crawlspace, or other areas inside the building; or
- recirculated within a residence or to another dwelling unit.
