Notching and Drilling Bored Holes
Notches and drilling bored holes in joists, including the middle third. Structural floor joists and beams should not be cut, bored, or notched greater than the maximums permitted in the code. Notching should be avoided. Holes bored in beams and joists weaken wood members.
