Ceiling Joist Taper Cut
The taper cut must not exceed one-fourth (D/4) of the total depth (D) of the joist. The illustration shows the depth of the taper cut, labeled as "D/4 MAX.," which means that the cut must not be deeper than one-fourth of the total joist depth. This is measured at the inside face of the support.
