InterNACHI® Contractor Code of Ethics

InterNACHI® Contractor members have pledged to observe the highest standards of integrity, business ethics, and professional responsibility in dealing with consumers.  InterNACHI® Contractor members must follow the following Code of Ethics in the course of doing business:

  1. Duty to the Public
    1. The Contractor shall abide by the Contractor Code of Ethics.
    2. The Contractor shall be truthful regarding his/her services and qualifications and not make false promises or false claims in advertising.
    3. The Contractor shall be fair, honest and impartial, and act in good faith in dealing with the public.
    4. The Contractor shall strive to keep appointments and be on time.
    5. The Contractor shall not release any information about the inspection, work performed, or the client to a third party unless doing so is necessary to protect the safety of others, to comply with a law or statute, or both of the following conditions are met:
      1. the client has been made explicitly aware of what information will be released, to whom, and for what purpose; and
      2. the client has provided explicit, prior written consent for the release of his/her information.
    6. The Contractor shall use bids and written contracts that specify the services to be performed (the scope of work), written specifications, limitations of services, unforeseen conditions, schedule, fees, and payment expectations.
    7. The Contractor shall fulfill his/her contract obligations.
    8. The Contractor shall aspire to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.
  2. Duty to the Profession and to InterNACHI®
    1. The Contractor shall not engage in any practices that could be damaging to the public or bring discredit to the residential construction industry.
    2. The Contractor shall provide safe working conditions according to OSHA guidelines and/or industry standards.
    3. The Contractor shall strive to improve the construction industry by sharing his/her lessons and/or experiences for the benefit of all. This does not preclude the member from copyrighting or marketing his/her expertise to other contractors or the public in any manner permitted by law.
    4. The Contractor shall not discriminate in any business activities on the basis of age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, sexual orientation, or handicap, and shall comply with all federal, state and local laws concerning discrimination.
    5. The Contractor shall comply with all government rules and licensing requirements of the jurisdiction where s/he conducts business.
    6. The Contractor shall abide by InterNACHI's current Contractor membership requirements.
    7. The Contractor shall strive to keep up with growing industry innovations by taking Continuing Education courses each year.
