To obtain an Alberta Home Inspectors license via AlbertaACHI's certification program you must complete all testing and training from Article 1 to Article 4 in the sequence listed below.
The following CCHI Certification Procedures and requirements were added to the bylaws at the 2012.11.05 AGM.:
CCHI Certification procedures
The following training and testing standards are to be successfully completed in order to
earn the privilege of using the CCHI 1 professional designation and logo.
This designation is the exclusive property of the Alberta Association of Certified Home
Inspectors, AlbertaACHI and may only be used by AlbertaACHI members in good standing.
Primary Certification procedures
1 - Complete 202 hours of InterNACHI courses or equivalent courses approved by the Educational
Committee of Alberta NACHI
4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Safe Practices for the Home Inspector course (free), including
all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
5 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online 25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know course (free),
including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
8 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Residential Plumbing Inspection course (free), including all
quizzes within and pass its final exam.
4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Residential Electrical Inspection course (free), including all
quizzes within, and pass its final exam.
4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Roofing Inspection course (free), including all quizzes within
and pass its final exam.
12 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online HVAC Inspection course (free), including all quizzes within
and pass its final exam.
4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Structural Issues course (free), including all quizzes within and
pass its final exam.
16 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Exterior Inspection course (free), including all quizzes within
and pass its final exam.
4 hours: Completer InterNACHI's online Communication and Customer Service for Inspectors course
(free), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
14 hours: Complete InterNACHI's online Attic, Insulation, Ventilation and Interior course (free),

including all quizzes and pass its final exam.
1.1 These courses are available on the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors at Pre-
Licensing Certificate - InterNACHI .
1.2 The student must submit all alternate courses, content and exam results for evaluation by AlbertaACHI’s education
Committee.
1.3 Extra fees maybe accessed to cover the cost of evaluation.
1.4 The Education Committee’s decision will be final.
2 Final Exam
2.1 The final exam is an online, proctored exam;
2.1.1 The final exam is required by the Alberta Government’s Fair Trading Act.

3 Field training
3.1 Prerequisites: Successful completion of InterNACHI courses or approved equivalent courses
and passing the final exams as per section 2.
3.2 There are two field training procedures. The student shall complete one of these procedures.
(3.3 or 3.4)
3.3 Procedure One (1) Four (4) Ride-along's.
3.3.1. The student accompanies the CMI/CCHI and observes the procedures used by the
CMI/CCHI while s/he does the home inspections.
3..3..2. Each ride- along shall be documented and signed by the CMI/CCHI with a signed statement that
shows the date and time of the ride along and the location of the ride along. These documents must
be submitted to the Registrar.

3.4 Procedure Two (2) One Day Seminar.
3.4.1. A one-day Seminar conducted by a CMI/CCHI member in good standing shall consist of the
following procedures.
3.4.1.1. CMI/CCHI arranges for a house to be used as an example.
3.4.1.2. CMI/CCHI conducts the inspection as an instructor explaining the inspection procedures and/or
demonstrating the procedures to be used.
3.4.1.3. The inspection, explanation and/or demonstration of procedures shall meet AlbertaACHI’s Current
Standards of Practice.
3.5. Submit 4 mock inspection reports to AlbertaACHI’s Director of Education for review by the
Education Committee.
3.5.1 Education Committee will review the reports for compliance with current AlbertaACHI’s
Standards of Practice and Alberta Fair Trading Act, Home Inspection Business Regulations.
4 Peer review
4.1 A Peer review will be Conducted by a CMI certified by AlbertaACHI to proctor peer reviews using
AlbertaACHI’s government approved peer review procedure.
5 Obtain Government License
5.1 At this point in the process the Student may apply for a license to do Home Inspections.
5.2 Only inspection reports completed after receiving the HI license maybe used as credit to earn the CCHI
designation.
6 Submission of application for CCHI to Education director
6.1 The Licensed Home Inspector will submit 25 fee paid home inspection reports for review and approval
by AlbertaACHI Education committee.
6.1.1 The Reports must meet or exceed AlbertaACHI's Standards of Practice
7 Registrars responsibility
7.1 The registrar will review and keep a record of all Home Inspectors that have earned the right
to use the CCHI designation.

Certification of CMI to CCHI procedures
Since the CMI designation exceeds the CCHI designation all CMI AlbertaACHI members in good
standing may use the CCHI designation and trademark so long as they maintain their AlbertaACHI
membership.

“Any non-felon who has completed 1,000 fee-paid inspections and/or hours of inspection-related
Continuing Education (combined) in their lifetime, and has been in the inspection business for at least three
years, can apply to become a Certified Master Inspector®, provided s/he agrees to abide by the
Board’s Code of Ethics and substantially follows a Board-approved Standards of Practice.”
