Vermont Secretary of State Property Inspectors Department has approved InterNACH's pre-licensing course (online & free for members). The VT-approved course is actually the set of courses below:
- 12 hours: How to Inspect HVAC Systems Course
- 8 hours: Residential Plumbing Overview for Inspectors Course
- 4 hours: Inspecting Water Heater Tanks Course
- 4 hours: How to Perform Residential Electrical Inspections Course
- 4 hours: Structural Issues for Home Inspections Course
- 4 hours: How to Perform Roof Inspections Course
- 8 hours: Inspecting Asphalt Shingle Roofs Course
- 16 hours: How to Perform Exterior Inspections Course
- 14 hours: How to Inspect the Attic, Insulation, Ventilation and Interior Course
- 8 hours: Defect Recognition and Report Writing Course

Final Certificate of Completion:
After completing all of the courses (above), go to your members-only account to download the final certificate of completion.
State Exam for Home Inspector License
The state requires an individual to pass the state exam.
Insurance for Inspectors
Although Vermont doesn’t have requirements regarding insurance for home inspectors, many local real estate boards and home inspector business franchises require their affiliate members to meet certain coverage standards. Radon Tester Certification in Vermont (online & free)
Although there are no state regulations for radon testing in Vermont, the Vermont Department of Health recommends to the public hiring certified radon professionals (as of Nov 2014). Visit the Vermont website for details.
