How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Indiana

Home Inspector Licensing

InterNACHI® is approved by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (iPLA) and the Indiana Home Inspector Licensing Board to provide a free, online pre-licensing course for home inspectors to become licensed. The course is online and free for members. Not a member? Join InterNACHI®


To become an Indiana-licensed home inspector, you must:
  • Complete an IPLA-approved pre-licensing training course. Take InterNACHI's state-approved free & online pre-licensing course.
  • Complete 12 hours of practical in-field training experience with a licensed inspector. The state requires 12 hours of hands-on training experience conducting home inspections. 
  • Pass the pre-licensing course's 250-question final exam (free & online for members).
  • Pass the state exam. Scheduled through the state website.
 



To Renew Your Home Inspector License

Licensed home inspectors in Indiana are required to complete Continuing Education in each renewal period. InterNACHI® is approved by the state to provide free, online Continuing Education (CE) to licensed home inspectors. The CE courses are free and online for members. Not a member? Join InterNACHI®. 

32 hours are required for each renewal cycle that is more than 24 months. For inspectors who have had their license for more than 12 months but less than 24, 16 hours of CE are required. For inspectors who have had their license for less than 12 months, no CE is required. 
 
Category I is defined as continuing education that is formal programming, which includes instruction in one of the following areas (all of which can be covered by the online courses listed at www.nachi.org/education):

Radon Tester Certification in Indiana (free & online for members)


The Indiana State Department of Health requires an individual, prior to obtaining an Indiana Radon Professional license, to take certification training approved by NRPP or NRSB.  Visit the Indiana website for details.
NRPP:
InterNACHI's free, online Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course  is AARST-NRPP-approved for both initial certification and Continuing Education. To complete all components of the NRPP Radon Certification, please visit their site for more information.  
 
NRSB:

Wood Destroying Organisms (free & online for members)

 The Office of Indiana State Chemist requires that inspections for wood-destroying organisms be conducted by a certified professional. For more information on becoming certified as a WDI inspector, visit the State Chemist's website.
