Home Inspector Licensing

- Pre-Licensing Provider #CE21200001. View Pre-Licensing Approval

- Complete an IPLA-approved pre-licensing training course. Take InterNACHI's state-approved free & online pre-licensing course.
- Complete 12 hours of practical in-field training experience with an InterNACHI-approved inspector. The state requires 12 hours of hands-on training experience conducting home inspections.
- Pass a national exam. Scheduled through the state website.
To Renew Your Home Inspector License
Licensed home inspectors in Indiana are required to complete Continuing Education in each renewal period. InterNACHI® is approved by the state to provide free, online Continuing Education (CE) to licensed home inspectors. The CE courses are free and online for members. Not a member? Join InterNACHI®.
32 hours are required for each renewal cycle that is more than 24 months. For inspectors who have had their license for more than 12 months but less than 24, 16 hours of CE are required. For inspectors who have had their license for less than 12 months, no CE is required.
Category I is defined as continuing education that is formal programming, which includes instruction in one of the following areas (all of which can be covered by the online courses listed at www.nachi.org/education):
- Heating systems. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about HVAC systems for 21 CE hours.
- Cooling systems. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about HVAC systems for 21 CE hours.
- Electrical systems. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about electrical systems for 4 CE hours.
- Plumbing systems. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about plumbing systems for 8 CE hours.
- Structural systems. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about structural systems for 4 CE hours.
- Foundations. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about foundations for 3 CE hours.
- Roof coverings. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about roof coverings for 2 CE hours.
- Exterior and interior components. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about exterior components and take InterNACHI's free, online course about interior components.
Category II is defined as continuing education that is formal programming, which includes instruction in one of the following areas (all of which can be covered by the online courses listed at www.nachi.org/education).
- Any other site aspects that affect a residential dwelling. Take InterNACHI's free, online course about deck inspections.
- Business operations, contract writing, ethics courses, report writing, legal liability instruction, or any other formal programming that is specifically directed toward the home inspection industry.
